You know I am more of a thriller gal! I could see Stephen King and JD Barker fans really enjoying this one though! The book is well written and exciting, but seeing as the book is more horror/sci-fi, it’s not one I would ordinarily gravitate towards. As a result, I think this made it difficult to create a connection with any of them.

There is so much happening with this storyline, that we really don’t get to delve too deep into the characters. I’m not sure if it is because there are so many characters, but I didn’t feel invested in any of them. The actual noise is really a character on its own and had me at the edge of my seat.Įach chapter is told from multiple POV’s, so initially that is difficult to keep track of. The chapters are quite short and makes for a quick read, as you keep telling yourself….one more chapter! This book is well written, fast paced and action packed. Also, there is a team of specialists trying to figure out what the cause of ‘the noise’ is and how to stop it. Without giving too much away, the story centres around how the two girls, Tennant and Sophie survived. I could find nothing on the internet though, so you really are going in blindly with this one. I tried to get more information about this book, as I felt the blurb didn’t really tell me too much. From out of nowhere, their father sweeps them up and drops them through a trapdoor into a storm cellar. In the shadow of Mount Hood, sixteen-year-old Tennant is checking rabbit traps with her eight-year-old sister Sophie when the girls are suddenly overcome by a strange vibration rising out of the forest, building in intensity until it sounds like a deafening crescendo of screams.

The previous PattersonxBarker collaboration, The Coast to Coast Murders, remains one of my favourite books of 2021….how does The Noise compare? What is The Noise about? My husband was moving the couch the other day, and the metal feet scraped along the tiled floor….the noise coming from that was unbearable! In that moment, that awful sound reminded me that I hadn’t yet written my review of The Noise.
